At the early stage of the Automobile era, we used to adopt the Two Stroke Engines to run the vehicles; two stroke engine works perfectly without any defaults even though Four stroke Engines are chosen over Two Stroke. Yes, the advantages of the Four Stroke Engine are the reason to choose it in a wide range.  It does not mean that Two Stroke Engine does not consist any advantages; it does mean that Four Stroke Engine is more economical and it consists notable advantages. Let us see, what those are?

Advantages of Four Stroke Engine over Two Stroke Engine:

Intake:

Four Stroke Engines can suck the air alone for its initial process called Intake/suction process or Initial stroke called Intake/suction stroke whereas Two stroke engine requires air and fuel mixture for its combustion process or Power stroke.

At this point, four stroke engines will be awarded for their design stands better than two stroke.

Torque:

Four Stroke Engines develop more torque at low RPM’s (Revolutions per Minute) and of course, even Two stroke will develop more torque but only at High RPM’s. The requirement of more torque at less RPM’s is a necessary thing than at high RPM’s.

For Example: If a vehicle is moving upward direction having higher heights as shown in the figure, the gravitational force will drag the vehicle downward or backward direction; to overcome this situation and to allow the car to move forward direction, we need high torque at low RPM.

In this situation, the four stroke bagged one more point besides two stroke.

Efficiency:

Efficiency is the effecting factor for every machine that decides its future. So, four stroke Engine do have higher efficiency than two stroke engine due to their fuel consumption.

Emission:

Emission will be one of the notable factors according to its performance. Four Stroke Engines emit a low amount of gases compared to two stroke engines. The amount of emitting gases is decreasing in the modern generation Engines BS-I, BS-II, etc. BS-I, BS-II, etc are the engine emission standards. You can read about them here.

Economy:

The fuel consumption will be more in the Two stroke engine and coming to the mileage point of view, as the fuel consumption is more, then the mileage will be less in two stroke over four stroke engine.

So even in the point of Economy four stroke has more advantage and still it proving itself as better than two stroke. So, these are the main and notable advantages that made Four Stroke engines preferred over Two Stoke Engines.

Conclusion:

Of course, the four stroke engine is more preferable than two stroke engine but it does not mean that the Two Stroke Engine is not in usage and existed in the world; two stroke engines do consists advantages that made it applicable in few fields.
